ESPN Goals app passes 1m downloads

ESPN Goals app passes 1m downloads - The landmark was reached last weekend with viewers generating over 63.1m minutes of viewing time via the app.

The app, ESPN Goals, was originally a subscription-funded proposition when it launched at the start of last season.
The relaunched app, which has new features such as video goal alerts, generated 50m page views in the two months since its launch and also helped drive referrals for premium TV subscriptions, according to ESPN.

The broadcaster has also announced that EA, Continental Tyres and cosmetics brand Mentholatum have all agreed to run short pre-roll video ads around clips within the app this season. ESPN will also run display ads.

Tom Gleeson, ESPN International’s VP digital media, said, “The app reflects our approach to bringing fans multi-screen access to football, which is something we will continue to enhance as our business grows in the UK.”

Earlier in the season, which kicked off in August, ESPN struck a deal with Bet365 to feature a “bet now” button on the Goals app, which let users access the latest odds the bookmaker’s website.
