World's Highest Tennis Court at Burj Al Arab

The worlds highest tennis court stands atop the fourth highest hotel in the world - Burj al-Arab at Dubai. The tennis court is circular in shape and when no session is at play, it doubles as a helipad. The exact height of the tennis court is not known, but the hotel is 321 m (1,053 feet) tall and the court is located very near the top. My guess is, its close to 1000 feet. In 2005, when Roger Federer and Andre Agassi were at Dubai for a tournament, they were invited to play a few rounds at the Burjs helipad-converted-tennis court.

Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Championship

Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is held every year on July 4 at Nathan's Famous Corporation's original, and best-known restaurant at the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues in Coney Island, a neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The contest is so popular that is beamed live on ESPN and estimated to be watched by 1.949 million viewers in addition to the 40,000 or so spectators that assemble at the ground in person.
The contest has gained public attention in recent years due to the sudden stardom of Takeru Kobayashi, his subsequent rivalry with American Joey Chestnut, and the current controversy over Kabayashi's contractual dispute and absence. In the ninety-sixth annual contest, held on July 4, 2011, four-time-defending champion Chestnut won his fifth title by consuming 62 hot dogs and buns in ten minutes.
Kobayashi, who has been banned from the contest due to a contract dispute with Major League Eating, competed from afar: on the roof of a Manhattan bar, in unison with Chestnut and his fellow competitors. Kobayashi polished off 69 hot dogs proving that he is still the best, but officials will not recognize Kobayashi's feat.
Chestnut remains the official champion, and he will share his official title with Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas, who devoured 40 hot dogs and buns to beat eight other eaters in the first women's Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. Both Chestnut and Thomas were awarded $10,000.
Champion Joey Chestnut ploughed through 62 wieners and buns in 10 minutes, falling short of his personal best of 68.
Juliet Lee (L) and Sonya Thomas compete in the Women's 2011 Nathan's International Hot Dog Eating Contest. Lee at 29 hot dogs to finish a distant second behind Thomas.

Creative Cakes In the field of Sports

In 1967, boxing legend Muhammad Ali celebrated his 25th birthday with a 578-pound cake.

Iraqi bodybuilders posed with this cake of Arnold Schwarzenegger for his 57th birthday.

Famed chef Duff Goldman, of Food Network's Ace of Cakes, created the official NFL Super Bowl XLI cake.

Now THIS is a cake. Students at the Culinary Academy of India built an edible 15-foot-by-2-foot cricket bat and 60-inch ball for the national cricket team. Three chefs, assisted by 30 student chefs used 200 kilograms of icing sugar, 300 egg whites, five kilograms of gelatin and 20 kilograms of corn flour and spent 120 hours of work on the cake, just to wish the Indian cricket team luck during the Cricket World Cup 2007.

Former boxing champ Ricky Hatton celebrated his 30th birthday before a press conference for his 2008 IBF light welterweight fight against Paulie Malignaggi in Manchester, England. Hatton won the fight via 11th-round TKO.

Boston Red Sox legend Johnny Pesky celebrated his 88th birthday in style at Fenway Park.

Fans marvel over a chocolate replica of FC Barcelona's Stadium, Camp Nou Stadium, at Bosch Pastry Shop in Pineda de Mar, near Barcelona. The edible stadium was made of nearly 700 kilograms of chocolate.

Former career home run leader Hank Aaron (center) is joined by baseball greats Reggie Jackson, Frank Robinson, Sammy Sosa, Don Baylor, Phil Niekro, Sonny Jackson and Ernie Banks as he blows out the candles on his 65th birthday cake.

Mike Tyson has a knack for biting things.

The late NFL linebacker Sam Mills got a big head for his 38th birthday.

A yummier version of Jeff Gordon's car.

Martina Hingis and Anna Kournikova check out a huge cake in the shape of Arthur Ashe Stadium, another creation by chef Duff Goldman.

The Phillie Phanatic got this in 2009.

Former NHL player Benoit Hogue cuts into a Stanley Cup cake during All-Star weekend in 2007.

Top 10 worst Premier League signings

With the struggles of big-money duo Fernando Torres and Edin Dzeko and Benni McCarthy's expensive release by West Ham in the public eye, we list some of the Premier League's big-money flops.

McCarthy will have cost the Hammers around £6 million in total after he was paid off to get out of Upton Park, the portly South African having long lost the physique and ability to be a top-flight player.
Torres and Dzeko are expected to eventually come good for Chelsea and Manchester City - they are young, gifted and surely recoverable - but some of the megabucks signings in the modern era quite literally went to waste.

Steve Marlet didn't know whether he was a striker or a winger or even a footballer, Afonso Alves was comically flaky and Tomas Brolin was, well, big-boned.
So in no particular order, we give you our top 10 Premier League flops...

Afonso Alves (Heerenveen to Middlesbrough, 2007, £12.7m)

Top 5 Heart-breaking Moments in Indian Cricket History

Indian Cricket team is not a dream-team and comprises human beings who can never achieve perfection.

India has gone through its fair share of heartbreaks in the various matches that the team has played over the years. We take a look at 5 such moments which proved to be heartbreaking for the Indian cricket team as well as the fanatic followers of the game.

1. Javed Miandad's six against India: Sharjah Cup 1986
Perhaps the most famous six of all time, was the one hit by Javed Miandad off Chetan Sharma in the last ball of the final over at the Sharjah Cup in 1986. In this India-Pakistan match, Miandad's six led the Pakistani team to a thrilling victory. Prior to Sharjah, Pakistan had lost six of their nine ODI matches against India. Miandad's thundering six probably had a crushing effect on the Indian bowlers which is why India lost the next eight out of nine matches to Pakistan.

2. India vs Australia: World Cup 1987
The first match of the 1987 World Cup was totally heartbreaking for the followers of the Indian team. Riding on their '83 World Cup win, India came across as a confident team. Australia posted a score of 270 for India to chase. Following an aggressive 70 and 73 by Srikkanth and Sidhu, India looked set for a win at 207-3.
Suddenly India's batting order collapsed like a house of cards and India was reduced to 256-8. The last over saw India needing just 2 runs to win with 1 wicket in hand. Maninder was bowled and India lost the match by 1 run.

3. India Vs Sri Lanka: World Cup Semi-final 1996
After putting up a score of 251, Sri Lanka sought to defend it under the captaincy of Sanath Jayasuriya.
Sachin, like usual, led the Indian team's attack before he was stumped at 65 from 88 balls. After his dismissal, India dramatically slumped to 120-8 owing to the brilliance of Jayasuriya. It was then that the match turned controversial after the crowd vented their frustration by burning paper and throwing bottles and stones at the fielders. The match was called of by the match referee and was awarded to Sri Lanka by default.

4. India vs England: 1987 World Cup
Kapil Dev won the toss and decided to let England bat. However, he became clueless when Graham Goochrepeatedly smacked the spinners towards the boundary. England posted a competitive score of 254.
Sunil Gavaskar fell cheaply and a similar tale of collapse followed. Kapil Dev got out to what people still remember as a reckless shot after scoring a brisk 30 leaving India at 204-6. The last 4 wickets were wrapped up for just 19 runs which left the nation stunned. India's dream of lifting a consecutive World Cup were crushed and so were a million hopes.

5. India vs Pakistan: Chennai Test 1999
This was one of the most heart-breaking moments for Sachin Tendulkar fans i.e cricket fans in general. Sachin played brilliantly on a pitch that was not meant to favour the batsmen.Sachin was determined to steady the rocky Indian ship and steer them to victory against the Pakistani team. He put up a brave score of 136 before falling prey to Saqlain Mushtaq. Moin Khan stated, in a press conference, that he had never seen shots like that in his career before. India needed just 17 runs to win in 95 overs with 3 wickets remaining. India, however, lost 3 wickets for 4 runs in 4 overs and India lost the match by a 12 run victory. Sachin, who was adjudged the Man of the Match, was so upset that he never turned up to collect the award.

Pregnant Woman Runs at Chicago Marathon

At 39 weeks pregnant most women would only be thinking of racing to hospital. But not Amber Miller, who - while expecting her second child any day - set off to run the Chicago Marathon. As she neared the final stages of the race, contractions kicked in. But the extraordinary mother-of-one from Illinois continued the race regardless, half running, half walking. The determined athlete managed to cross the finish line in 6 hours and 25 minutes

Heroic effort: Amber Miller gave birth hours after finishing the Chicago Marathon to baby June
And just a few hours after completing the 26.2-mile race on Sunday the Chicago woman gave birth to her daughter, June Audra.
The new mother told  'It was the longest day of my life.'

Incredibly the Chicago race was not even baby June's first marathon - Miller ran the Wisconsin Marathon earlier this year, four moths pregnant. She also ran another marathon when she was about four months pregnant with her son, Caleb, 19 months. Despite the extra weight, the veteran runner's time was just three hours off her personal best.

The Weirdest Team Names in Sports

Once the team is formed, the question what should be the team's name starts popping up. With there being millions of organized sports teams out there in the world, the laws of statistical variation - combined with hilarious human error and stupidity - tell us that at least a few of those teams are bound to have truly weird names. Imagine telling your friends and family that you play for "Fighting Cocks" or maybe "The Nads" :)

Let's have a look at some of the weirdest, most random, and ill-conceived sports team names that are out there.

Fart

Yes, there is a team out there whose official name is Fart. Fotballaget Fart is a Norwegian football club based in Vang. They play home games at Fartbana Stadion. The club has both men's and women's teams. The women play in the First Division (second tier), having been relegated from Toppserien, while the men currently play in the Third Division (fourth tier).

Note: Fart is actually Norwegian for "speed" but of course it sounds funny if you're English speaking.

Deportivo Wanka

Deportivo Wanka is a Peruvian football club, based in the city of Huancayo in the Peruvian Andes. It has been giving Manchester United a run for its money in the replica kit market, although the Huancayo-based outfit has no idea why more than 1,000 British footie fans might want to sport a Deportivo Wanka shirt. The team is, according to UK tabloid The Sun, named after the Wanka tribe which once occupied Huancayo.

Maria Sharapova wins Italian Open

Maria Sharapova beat Sam Stosur 6-2, 6-4 in the Italian Open final Sunday for the biggest clay-court title of her career.

After a three-hour rain delay, the seventh-seeded Sharapova won the opening four games, then cruised from there to follow up her victory over top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki in the semifinals.

This tournament is a key warmup for the French Open, the clay-court Grand Slam that begins in one week, and Sharapova will now clearly be one of the favorites in Paris.
Sharapova is a three-time Grand Slam winner, and Roland Garros remains the only major title she hasn't won.
"This is just the beginning of many things to come. This is just the start of everything," Sharapova said during the trophy presentation.

Top 10 Goal of the season 2010/11

10 - Raul Meireles

Raul Meireles has been Liverpool's best player this season but it was his brace, and in particular, his second goal at Molineux that will stick in the memory. A long ball was played up from left-back and knocked down to the Portuguese midfielder. In an audacious attempt, the 28-year-old let fly with from 30 yards with a dipping shot which looped over the powerless Wayne Hennessey in the Wolves goal.

Five reasons Man Utd can win

United are the underdogs
It doesn't happen often that United are seen as the underdog, and frankly when it does, it suits the club. Backs-to-the-wall, and all that. Look at how many pundits wrote United off for this Premier League season back in August, and look at how Sir Alex Ferguson and his men responded. I suspect Ferguson will privately be quite happy for most people to expect a Barcelona victory this weekend.

United have a team packed with talent
This may seem obvious to some of you, but is a fact that often seems to have been overlooked or forgotten in the post-Cristiano Ronaldo years. United may lack some of the panache of their previous teams, including their European Cup winners of 2008, but they do have a whole collection of superb players. From the exciting wing play of Antonio Valencia to the seemingly ageless skills of Ryan Giggs, the sheer energy of Javier Hernandez and brilliance of Wayne Rooney, United have the resources to trouble the Catalan giants.

Texts from last night: Canucks in the Stanley Cup Final edition

One of the best parts of being a fan is getting to share the rare triumphs of your team with people you care about, whether those be fellow fans, family, friends, or other loved ones. I always appreciate how my friends show support for the Canucks when they do well, and console me when they don't. Often after a big win, I will end up in a texting storm for about 15 minutes as I revel in the victory with friends, whether they are diehards like me or just excited on my behalf.

Last night was no exception to this trend, as before, during, and after the game, I shared the experience with friends via text. After the jump, a review of my texts from last night as the Canucks advance to the Stanley Cup Final. Apparently such an occasion brings out a lot of WOOOOOOs, TYPING IN CAPS, and multiple exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!
I am sure many of you can sympathize. If last night you had any memorable texts, emails, tweets, or drunk dials, feel free to share them in the comments.

Scottie Pippen picks greatest player of all time

Scottie Pippen picks greatest player of all time. At the ripe age of 26, LeBron James(notes) has won two MVP awards, he has two NBA Finals appearances, several All-Star berths, and his Miami Heat team will be the odds-on favorite to win the NBA title next week as they prepare to take on the Dallas Mavericks. He also has zero NBA titles.

At the same age, NBA legend Michael Jordan had just as many titles, just as many MVP awards, and his Bulls weren't even the favorites (despite home court advantage) as they prepared to take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1991 NBA Finals.

All this was enough for Jordan teammate and guy-who-should-know Scottie Pippen to toss this out, while appearing on ESPN Radio Friday morning:

"Michael Jordan is probably the greatest scorer to ever play the game. I may go so far as saying LeBron James may be the greatest player to ever play the game."

No, James hasn't surpassed Jordan in any meaningful way yet. He hasn't won jack, in comparison to MJ's six titles. He hasn't simultaneously won a Defensive Player of the Year in the same season he led the NBA in scoring, though that might be Dwight Howard's(notes) fault more than anything else. And because James joined the Miami Heat midway through his career, he'll never be looked at as the singular drive behind any championships he earns. After all, when Jordan won his first ring in 1991, Pippen hadn't even made an All-Star team by then.

But parsed correctly, tossing in a "might be" before "the greatest player to ever play the game," and following that with a "when all is said and done," Pip has to be taken seriously, here. James is 26, and he might be the greatest player to ever play the game when all is said and done. A lot of us have felt that for years.

The 2011 NBA Finals are set

The 2011 NBA Finals are set
The 2011 NBA Finals are set. The matchup for the 2011 NBA Finals is set with the Miami Heat facing off against the Dallas Mavericks. Some NBA analysts are touting the finals as a matchup between two star players. The first game of the best of seven series will tip off on Tuesday in Miami

Best ever European finals

Ahead of Saturday's Champions League final, here's a look back at some of the great finals the European football has produced.

1960 European Cup final

Real Madrid 7 Eintracht Frankfurt 3

Any final with 10 goals in it deserves to be in this list and this match, played in front of 135,000 fans at Hampden Park is no exception. There were thoughts that Madrid's forward pairing of Alfredo Di Stéfano and Ferenc Puskás might be passed their prime and Frankfurt's semi-final saw them beat Rangers 12-4 on aggregate.

When Frankfurt took the lead in the 18th minute, there were thoughts that a shock could occur. Within 10 minutes Madrid equalised through Di Stéfano and three minutes later his second goal gave Madrid the lead. Any doubts about Madrid's forwards were completely lost by the 60th minute as Puskas completed a 15-minute hat-trick to give Madrid a 5-1 lead.

Ryan Giggs sues News of the World

Ryan Giggs sues News of the World

(Reuters) - Manchester United star Ryan Giggs has joined a growing list of celebrities suing the News of the World for illegally intercepting their voicemail messages, his lawyers revealed on Thursday.
"Proceedings relating to phone hacking were issued on behalf of Ryan Giggs in the High Court against News Group Newspapers Ltd, the publishers of News of the World, and Glenn Mulcaire," Giggs's law firm Schillings said.
Mulcaire is a private detective convicted in 2007 along with the News of the World's then royal editor for voicemail hacking. The case was closed but was reopened this year after new evidence emerged.
Dozens of actors, politicians and sportspeople including Hollywood star Jude Law are now suing the newspaper, part of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp media empire, for allegedly trawling their phone messages for scandal to sell newspapers.

Vancouver Rioter Outed As Junior National Water Polo Player

Vancouver Rioter Outed As Junior National Water Polo Player. You’re going to see plenty of stories like this in the next few days, one would imagine, as police comb through photos and video of those involved in the Vancouver hockey riot. One of the first rioters to turn himself in to police will be Nathan Kotylak, 17, shown here apparently lighting a police car on fire, and with his water polo teammates in the inset.Kotylak, the “son of a highly-respected surgeon” according to CBC News, was outed by several people who recognized the star athlete from this notorious video which has become one of the most seen images of the riot. The private school senior plays on Canada’s junior national water polo team and lives in Maple Ridge, a wealthy suburb of Vancouver. He has a partial scholarship to play water polo at the University of Calgary next year. His father says he wants to major in kinesiology and one day play in the Olympics, according to CBC.

Tennis star arrives in Gaga-esque outfit

Bethanie Mattek-Sands told Busted Racquet last week that she had a fashion surprise in store at Wimbledon. Did she ever. The 31st-ranked American walked onto Court 14 on Wednesday for her first-round match wearing a white bolero jacket festooned with spikes and cutouts of white tennis balls. The piece was designed by Alex Noble, who works with Lady Gaga and designed Mattek-Sands' memorable yellow dress for the Wimbledon player's party.
